Print page 1 for the activity and keep page 2 for teaching notes and answers or suggested responses.
Use A4 paper at 100% or Actual size. Choose by the task and your class; the suggested range is a starting point, not a curriculum-alignment claim.
How to use this resource
- Point to the starting number before moving.
- Model one jump between adjacent ticks and count jumps rather than the starting tick.
- Draw the remaining jumps, read the endpoint and connect it to the calculation.
Make it easier or add challenge
More support
Use a counter on the line and complete a calculation with one or two jumps together.
More challenge
Show two different calculations that finish at the same number and explain the routes.
What to look for
Does the child count movements rather than tick marks? Starting at zero for every question can hide a misunderstanding.
