Print page 1 for the activity and keep page 2 for teaching notes and answers or suggested responses.

Use A4 paper at 100% or Actual size. Choose by the task and your class; the suggested range is a starting point, not a curriculum-alignment claim.

How to use this resource

  1. Choose one prompt that fits the lesson.
  2. Allow private thinking or a paired rehearsal before sharing.
  3. Ask speakers to give a reason and invite others to add, question or disagree with the idea.

Make it easier or add challenge

More support

Offer two possible starting ideas and a sentence stem. Allow the usual communication tools and time to respond.

More challenge

Ask children to compare two reasons and explain whether the discussion changed their view.

What to look for

Were ideas explained and heard? Participation can include a recorded, pointed or supported response rather than speaking to the whole class.

Teacher answers and suggested responses

Open-ended. Look for a relevant reason, example or question, and a response to someone else's idea.

Disagreement can be thoughtful. No particular personal opinion is required and pupils should not be pressured to disclose private experiences.

A useful next step

Printing, access and sharing

Allow drawing, discussion, practical materials or usual communication tools where they support the learning aim. Use separate paper if a child needs more writing or drawing space.
